"Sports serve society by providing vivid examples of excellence." - George F. Will

November 15, 2009 * Ireland vs. Austrailia * Draw 20-20
My first rugby game. And yes, someone's ear was ripping off and they showed it on the big screen. Those guys are pretty tough. I'll admit that it was pretty exciting at the end. Ireland had been trailing and they tied it up. My favorite part though, was the song that everyone sang at the beginning.
With the Ireland rugby team representing both the Republic and Northern Ireland, "Ireland's Call" was scripted to help cross sectarian and national divides and adopted as the rugby anthem in 1995. However, at home matches in Dublin the Irish national anthem, the Soldier's Song, is also sung.
Ireland's Call
Ireland
Ireland
Side by side
We stand like brothers
One for all and all together
We will stay united through darker days
And we'll be unbeatable forever
Ireland, Ireland
Together standing tall
Shoulder to shoulder
We'll answer Ireland's call
Come the day and come the hour
Some will live in song and stories
We were born to follow our guiding star
And to meet our destiny with glory
Ireland, Ireland
Together standing tall
Shoulder to shoulder
We'll answer Ireland's call
Hearts of steel and heads unbowing
Vowing never to be broken
We will fight, until we can fight no more
Till our final requiem is spoken
Ireland, Ireland
Together standing tall
Shoulder to shoulder
We'll answer Ireland's call
Ireland, Ireland
Together standing tall
Shoulder to shoulder
We'll answer Ireland's call
We'll answer Ireland's call!
